Students interested in Doctoral Research in Health Communication
Students who are interested in doctoral research in health communication may pursue such training by applying to the PhD in Media, Technology, and Society (MTS) or the PhD in Technology and Social Behavior (TSB). When applying to either of these programs, applicants must mention that they are interested in health communication. Accepted students will work with health communication faculty to develop their course of study. In the application, students should indicate that they are interested in working with a faculty member who works in the health communication area and who are also affiliated with either the MTS or TSB program.
Each of our PhD students will develop an individualized course of study based on their research interests. PhD funding will be provided according to the guidelines of the MTS or TSB Doctoral programs. Students will learn from and work with other students and faculty across the School of Communication to prepare for research positions in academic or healthcare institutions, or leadership positions in governmental and policy organizations.
The admissions process has three main steps:
- Complete the Northwestern University Graduate School online application
- Submit supplemental information (official GRE score report, letters of recommendation)
- Interview upon invitation
Applicants can access the online application via the TGS admissions portal. On the form, please indicate that the application is for the PhD in Media, Technology, and Society or Technology and Social Behavior in the School of Communication. The application fee is $75.
