Why did you choose the MS Health Communication Program at Northwestern University?
I chose the MS Health Communication Program because it encompasses so many different aspects of healthcare I was interested in and wanted to gain more exposure to. There are some parts of healthcare I know a little bit about and a lot of healthcare that I know nothing about and have yet to learn. This program brings it all together and provides you with the necessary tools to become more versatile and hopefully one day bring some change to the system.
What are your career goals?
My goal is to be a positive advocate in healthcare. I am looking forward to using the tools and skills I am acquiring from this program to help bring changes to policy and bridge the many communication gaps that currently exist.
What is your favorite part of the program so far?
The lectures are really interesting and the professors are extremely knowledgeable. I love how interactive the classes are and you learn so much from your fellow classmates! There is so much diversity in the classroom, with different personal experiences and perspectives. The discussions really help build upon the lectures and even enable you to see something from a different perspective. Everything you learn in the classroom is applicable in your day-to-day life!
Any tips on balancing school, work, and life?
I love planning! It can get overwhelming balancing work, school, and trying to squeeze in a social life. I like to plan and organize a schedule that works best for me. With that being said, it is also really important to schedule time for yourself and realize that self-care is extremely essential to your success.
Is there any additional advice or information that you would share?
This program has so much to offer outside the classroom. Take advantage of all the resources available to you!
