  1. What was your Undergrad Institution and Major?
My undergrad institution was North Central College and I majored in Psychology
  1. What encouraged you to pursue this health communication degree?
I was very drawn to the program when I first read about it online because the MSHC programs touches upon very prevalent issues within healthcare but more importantly is that it gives you the tools and knowledge to fix those problems. Additionally, I am very passionate about health disparities and bridging the healthcare gap which is a big topic in the program which is why I knew that the MSHC program was the right one for me.
  1. What are your career goals?
My career goal is to become a physician. I am also very interested in becoming an academic clinician which means that I will work in an academic institution as a faculty member teaching and/or advising the medical students as well as practice medicine. The knowledge and skills that the MSHC program provides will help me to become a better physician because I will be able to understand my patient and the problems they are going through beyond just a diagnosis.
  1. Any tips on balancing school, work, and life?
My number one tip would be, have a routine! I cannot emphasize enough how important having a routine is because it develops discipline and makes being able to balance multiple things at once much more bearable. Also, having a planner and taking about an hour from your day before the week starts to plan the entire week is so important to ensure that you don’t forget important deadlines and don’t overwhelm yourself. Lastly, have a good support system! Surround yourself with people who support you and will be there for you to cheer you on!
  1. How do you practice self-care while in the program?
My way of practicing self-care is I go to the gym religiously and on Sundays after the gym I treat myself to Chipotle and an Ulta haul! I have a very planned out workout schedule and designate specific days to different muscle groups and it’s something that helps me by helping me clear my mind and makes me feel good overall! Chipotle and Ulta on Sunday’s is a necessity! It’s a nice way for me to enjoy my day off and rewards myself for all of the hard work I do during the week!
  1. How have you been able to use the current content in your work?
Currently I work at Rush University Medical Center in Cardiology, so I see patients being affected by the US healthcare system daily! The content is so applicable that I have been able to educate my patients regarding what different insurances mean and help them navigate during their time in the hospital!
