What is your hometown?
Wonewoc, Wisconsin

What are your interests/hobbies?
I like pursuing delicious food and craft beers and being outdoorsy in my new home of Minnesota.

What were your favorite Chicago activities?
I enjoyed baseball games, hot dogs, live music and movies in Millennium Park, and shows at Schubbas.

Did you work full time through the program?
Yes, I worked full time through the program and found it very manageable.

Were you able to balance work and school?
It took some adjusting to being back in school and reprioritizing, but by the end of the first quarter, I had a good system down.

Professionally, what are you doing now?
I work for the Minnesota Department of Health. I am using a great deal of the tools and skills gained in this program to create trainings, e-learning modules, fact sheets, and write reports for health care professionals on performing preventative health, developmental and social emotional screenings in early childhood through adolescence. I work with a team of nurses and enjoy providing a fresh prospective as a non-clinical health communicator.

Tell us about a “Northwestern moment.” More specifically, was there a moment either in class or otherwise associated with the program where something really clicked for you?
I distinctly remember the last day of the first quarter when Dr. Liss walked us through everything we had covered in just 10 short weeks and I thought, “Wow. I’m going to learn a lot in this program.”

How has the program changed the way you view healthcare?
The program gave me a more robust portrait of healthcare as it exists now and the potential for change and improvement in delivery and quality. It allowed me to view my health care experiences with a different critical lens.

Did you discover anything new or unexpected at Northwestern?
I felt like more than a student sitting in a classroom through much of the program because of the genuine desire of the faculty and program staff for us to share our experiences, ideas and input.
